  After some days trying spotting Platypus in the wild we finally decided to try the arboretum. Due to floods in the Mole Creek area none of the other Platypus Hotspots were reachable so we decided tot try this spot we heard about called the Tasmanian Arboretum.

  Then we took time to visit the rest of the arboretum and fell in love with it! It is so wonderful! Head out for the Limestone lookout right behind the bird hideout. It is a great place to get close with some birds and wallabies.

  Immediately we headed for the bird and platypus hideout, a nice shelter with a great overview over the lake. After 15 minutes we saw what we came for, a platypus!

  Beautiful peaceful walking tracks with an abundance of flora and fauna. Many photo opportunities and the bonus of a platypus and bird hide on Founders Lake. We snapped a number of birds and a platypus. After enjoying the sun we retreated to the shade of The Tree Park Kiosk and enjoyed the best homemade ice cream I have had in a very long time. Scones, sandwiches, tea and coffee also on offer at reasonable rates. If self sufficient a number of picnic tables and grassed areas to enjoy a picnic lunch. Entry fee only $5/adult and well worth it.

  Why go to the arboretum when on holiday? It was exactly that question that come to my mind when I headed over there. But on my visit this little treasure sure grew on me! Also, make sure to try the scones at the kiosk!

  A gem. For anyone not to be enchanted or appreciative of this treasure made up of many hours of hard work, its surviving longevity, excellent volunteers and wonderful bonus days such as bird tours etc, they would need to be asleep. Thank you for your contribution to trees, earth, wildlife and nature Tassie Arboretum! I will visit often. (Swans, platypus, ducks and little red-bottomed birds, not to mention the Don River. What's not to like.)

  We found ourselves visiting the Arboretum on a lovely day, sunny and slightly windy.
